A woody shrub to 6 feet tall and wide. This plant is pollinated by hummingbirds and has a "typical" hummingbird flower- rust-red to gold tubular flowers. Blooms through much of year but peaks April and May. It also contains dry, five-parted capsule containing many seeds attracting various other birds. Prune severely every few years to renew, hardy to 15° F.
